I’ll admit, the only poetic aspect here is the wordplay of the word well as an exclamation and as a synonym for satisfactorily. This is mainly an open letter to the boys I used to know as a teen who were too immature for a relationship that I felt ready for. Enjoy my diary poem. 😀

I loved you well,
and well,
you knew my name.
For all the blood I shed for you,
at least you remembered
my parents’ blessing.
You couldn’t be bothered to learn
any of my own,
just the curses others cast.
You shared an outsider perspective.
Didn’t care to see me
in the way I worked so hard
to see you.

I loved you well.
Never forget that. Never deny that.
Do that for me at least.
But then again,
I know you well.
Well, you knew my name.
For what it’s worth,
I wish you’d forget it,
as you’ve long forgotten
(never known)
any semblance of Me.
